Equ Healthcare — Interpretable Health Intelligence

Equ Healthcare, founded by Dr. Omar Costilla Reyes, is building a privacy-conscious personal health operating system. It combines wearable, laboratory, lifestyle, behavioral, and contextual signals into explainable health intelligence.

Founder role and what Equ Healthcare builds

Dr. Costilla Reyes founded Equ Healthcare in Boston and has served as its founder and chief executive officer since April 2024. The company is building a privacy-conscious personal health operating system, software that integrates wearable, laboratory, lifestyle, behavioral, and contextual signals into explainable, personalized health intelligence for more transparent health decisions. In his role he leads company strategy, product direction, research translation, partnerships, and execution across healthcare and artificial intelligence. Since October 2025 he has also directed research at Equ AI Lab, which works on explainable and neurosymbolic AI, digital health, and digital phenotyping.

Technical approach

Health data arrives from many sources and in many forms: a wearable’s heart-rate trace, a blood test, a sleep pattern, a medication schedule. A result built from such multimodal data is most useful to a person or clinician when they can see how it was reached. Equ Healthcare’s direction draws on Dr. Costilla Reyes’s research at MIT on program synthesis and neurosymbolic AI, which combines data-driven learning with explicit symbolic reasoning so that a system’s conclusions can be inspected. The company describes its goal as AI that works alongside clinicians rather than replacing their judgment, and treats transparency and privacy as prerequisites for system-level change in healthcare.

Milestones and connections

He introduced the venture publicly during New York TechWeek in June 2024, describing its mission as reducing medical costs and increasing access to care in the United States. In January 2025 Equ Healthcare joined the MIT CSAIL Alliances member ecosystem, and in March 2025 the company announced its first AI beta program, a product demonstration focused on medication management for GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) treatment. On April 29, 2025, during the MIT CSAIL Alliances Annual Meeting, Dr. Costilla Reyes presented the first version of the platform. In October 2025 the company announced a collaboration with Mayo Clinic. Together these milestones carry the platform from a stated mission to a first demonstration for early users, a presentation to the CSAIL Alliances community, and a collaboration with a clinical organization. Separate pages describe the GLP-1 beta, the Annual Meeting talk, the TechWeek launch, and the Mayo Clinic collaboration.
